Trump said CFTC Chairman Mike Selig was working on a compliant U.S. path for hyperliquid after months of regulatory engagement.
President Trump said yesterday that CFTC Chairman Mike Selig working to bring Hyperliquid to the United States “in a completely compliant and legal manner.”
What’s the scoop?
- White House push: Trump made the comment during a White House meeting with crypto and finance executives, including those from Coinbase, Kraken, Ripple, Robinhood, Nasdaq and ICE, alongside Selig and SEC Chairman Paul Atkins. Much of the event focused on the administration’s efforts to pass the CLARITY Act and keep crypto innovation thriving domestically.
- Regulatory foundations: This comment follows months of commitment to bring on-chain markets under CFTC oversight. On July 9, the Hyperliquid Policy Center and Phantom filed a joint comment ask the CFTC to clarify that simply creating on-chain protocols does not trigger exchange registration while still giving regulated companies a way to operate on-chain. Six days later, Hyperliquid Strategic Inc. and Hyperliquid Labs met directly with the CFTC Innovation Working Group.
- Details still to be determined: Trump has not explained how or when Hyperliquid might enter the United States, and neither the CFTC nor Hyperliquid have announced any approvals, regulatory structure, or launch timeline. To date, Hyperliquide remains officially unavailable to American traders.
