Ethereum (ETH) is retesting a resistance line it has only reached twice before, in 2021 and again around 2025, and Crypto trader Patel says this makes this the “biggest breakout setup yet” for the cryptocurrency.
In a chart released Friday, Patel charted a path to $5,000, then $10,000, then $15,000 if the line breaks, even as ETH was trading near $2,500, still less than half of its all-time high.
The Chart Behind the $15,000 Call
“$ETH retests a multi-year resistance zone for the third time after holding long-term accumulation support,” declared Patel shared a chart that plotted a descending trendline from 2018 to 2021, marked by three lower highs before ETH broke out in that year’s rally.
The same horizontal resistance has capped the price at the 2021 high and again around 2025, and the current test is considered the third touch of this line.
Below, a broad band that the analyst called the “best accumulation zone” has captured every major pullback since, with an ascending trendline running through it and ETH still sitting just above it, around $2,460 by the chart’s own reading.
The target scale is more granular than the shortcut of $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 in Patel’s caption suggests. The chart itself marks $3,270 and $4,892 as the first two levels, with $5,500 also signaled, before the path opens towards $10,000 and then $15,000.
At the time of writing, spot ETH was little changed in 24 hours, but it was down about 1% for the week and about 44% below its level a year ago. However, over a month, it posted gains of 31%, although even that jump kept the asset 50% below its August 2025 all-time high.
Trading volume jumped nearly 28% in the past 24 hours to nearly $16.3 billion, a sign of new activity around the level Patel is monitoring.
Experts are divided between breakout and withdrawal
Analyst NoName, publishing Thursday, offered a different perspective, noting that ETH had just completed an impulsive wave 3 move and writing that “the next phase of the structure should be a wave 4 correction.”
They pointed to $2,324 as the first support to watch, with a possible rebound towards $2,784 to $2,966 if buyers defend it, or a decline towards the $2,112 to $2,222 area if they fail. Only a daily close below $2,050 would completely remove the setup.
Several other market watchers have also been monitoring the $2,500-$2,550 area, with some expecting a move towards $3,000 after a strong weekly close above resistance, and others first anticipating a pullback towards $2,000.
