Users of the base app can now trade individuals with up to 50x leverage through Hyperliquid.
Today, Base App, Coinbase’s consumer “everything” app, launched with perpetual futures trading. powered by Hyperliquideoffering eligible users up to 50x in-app leverage across 290+ markets spanning crypto, tokenized stocks, and commodities.
What’s the scoop?
- The product: Trades happen natively within the Base App interface, but Hyperliquid handles matching, execution, and settlement on its on-chain order book behind the scenes. The feature is not available to users in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, or other jurisdictions that restrict leveraged crypto derivatives.
- Why now: Coinbase Head of Engineering Chintan Turakhia says Decrypt that hackers account for approximately 75% of all cryptocurrency trading volume and that this feature was the most requested request from Base App power users.
- Deepening the links: This decision builds on an existing relationship rather than starting one. Coinbase became Hyperliquid’s official USDC cash deployer under its Aligned Quote Asset framework in May, as USDC balances on Hyperliquid approached $5 billion, roughly double their level a year earlier.
- The biggest pivot: The launch fits directly into Base App’s broader strategic reset. In July, Base creator Jesse Pollak took a step back to run the app after admitting that its bet on social features and creative coins had “completely disintegrated,” handing management of the app to crypto legend Cobie, who joined Coinbase when it acquired its fundraising platform Echo for $375 million last year.
