XRP fell around 8% in the past 24 hours, one of the worst results among major cryptocurrencies, after the US Senate failed to advance the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act on Tuesday.
The drop left XRP down more than 10% for the week, well behind Bitcoin and most other major coins, and it shows how closely the token’s price is still tied to the progress of crypto legislation in Washington.
The sale was not just a profit taking
The price of XRP ranged from around $1.46 per CoinGecko data to almost $1.27, according to analyst Xaif Crypto. noting that its cumulative volume delta (CVD) fell to less than 10.5 million when the price was dumped.
“The sellers are no longer hiding, this is aggressive dumping and not just profit taking,” they wrote on X.
The liquidation followed the Senate vote almost exactly. Closure of the bill, officially known as HR 3633, needed 60 votes and got 49. Every yes vote came from Republicans, and four of them broke ranks to vote no.
Additionally, Senators Gillibrand, Warner, Booker, Warnock, Gallego, Alsobrooks and Cortez Masto all voted no after months of negotiations, meaning no Democrats voted to support it.
The CLARITY Act aims to split oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC and subject exchanges, brokers and dealers to a new federal registration regime, provisions that the market had been pricing in ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
At the time of writing, CoinGecko data puts XRP at around $1.28, down more than 8% in 24 hours and more than 10% in seven days. The picture looks different longer term, with the Ripple token still up almost 29% over the past 30 days even after this week’s drop, although it remains down more than 56% year-over-year and around 65% below its all-time high of $3.65 from July 2025.
Bitcoin and the rest of the market also slipped
The broader market was also under pressure, with Bitcoin sliding around 2.0% in the same 24 hours to trade near $75,000, while its share of the total crypto market remained above 56%. For its part, Ethereum fell almost 4%, allowing it to trade a few dollars below $2,400.
Stellar plunged even harder than XRP, reducing its value by almost 9%, while BNB was only slightly dented, its price falling less than 1%.
Zcash gained about 3% and Hyperliquid fell more than 2% during the same period, while Dogecoin slipped 3.7% and Solana lost more than 4%, in line with the rest of the market pullback.
For XRP, the immediate price damage does not change its legal position, as noted by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, who also said his company “has never been stronger” despite the CLARITY setback.
