On-chain data from earlier today indicated that another ETH holder from the project’s early days turned a profit after nearly a decade of holding, turning a relatively modest $56,000 investment into more than $7 million.
The transaction follows several recent moves by some of the crypto industry’s oldest wallets, including ETH addresses that have been dormant for around a decade.
Lookonchain noted on Friday that an Ethereum OG sold 3,000 tokens worth over $7.2 million. The unknown investor acquired the funds nine years ago at less than $19 each, meaning the position generated a return of almost 130x.
An #EthereumOG that bought $3,000ETH ($7.23 million now) at just $18.83 nine years ago sold out today, realizing a 128x return!

Earlier this month, another ETH holder deposited 6,369 ETH worth around $16 million to Kraken after accumulating the reserve at $14 each. An Ethereum ICO participant, on the other hand, moved 13,330 ETH (worth well over $36 million) at Coinbase in October as well. The wallet initially obtained 170,000 during the 2015 ICO at $0.31 per token.
These transfers come at a rather interesting time for the underlying asset. The Ethereum token rose from less than $2,000 to $2,800 in a matter of months before its rise was halted. It fell to $2,300 during the latest market pullback, before recovering to $2,400 at press time.
Learn more about the departure of OG: in August, another ICO investor transferred the 2,000 tokens, worth $3.77 million at the time, to Coinbase, about 11 years after he purchased the tokens for just $622. This resulted in an increase of more than 6,000 times.
