The head of one of Solana’s largest infrastructure companies joins NEAR’s board as the network expands its presence in cross-chain private markets.
What’s the scoop?
-
New board member: Mert Mumtaz, CEO and co-founder of Helius, has joined the NEAR Foundation Board and will sit alongside NEAR co-founder Illia Polosukhin and Anchorage Digital co-founder Diogo Mónica.
-
Its role: Mumtaz will help guide NEAR’s product strategy, ecosystem growth, and governance as the network expands into private on-chain marketplaces. He will also judge the NEAR hackathon, from November 1 to 14.
-
Cross links: Even if he runs Heliosa major infrastructure company in Solana, Mumtaz is an avid fan of NEAR, call him “the market of markets”, a neutral layer connecting chains like Solana, Zcash and AI networks: “If Solana is a continent… then NEAR is the Silk Road. »
-
The momentum of NEAR: NEAR Intentionswhich allows users to move between blockchains without managing bridges, has processed over $33 billion in historical volume. It is also lost about $3.8 million to a bug in the deposit system on October 1, which the team fixed, and which says it will refund users in full.
-
Quantum fears and AI: The day before, Mumtaz and Polosukhin joined Threadguy round table on whether AI or quantum computers could break cryptography. The takeaway is that coins are safe at the moment and hacking smart contracts is the biggest risk in the near term. Mom said most chains could upgrade if they had to, and that Zcash was “best prepared.”
